Nicky is a general cardiologist with a specialist interest in heart imaging, specifically MRI and echocardiography. She also has an interest in heart valve disease and is actively involved in research particularly looking at the effects of other diseases such as kidney disease on the heart.
She is UK trained; qualifying in 1999. She completed her general training in 2003 and then cardiology training in 2014. This time included a one-year Cardiac Imaging Fellowship here in Auckland, two years as a clinical lecturer at the University of Birmingham and three years of dedicated research with heart imaging techniques (leading to the award of British Cardiac Society Young Investigator of the Year in 2009) and a PhD from the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2011. She worked as a cardiologist for three years in one of the UK’s largest hospitals before emigrating to NZ with her family in July 2018.
