After initially working as a pharmacist, Tony attended Auckland Medical School, completing his internal medicine training in Auckland, New Zealand, and Rochester, New York. His cardiology training began at Green Lane Hospital in Auckland and was completed at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Cardiac Society of Australia and NZ and the American College of Cardiology. He maintains current American Board Certification in Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiac Device Implantation.
He has been involved with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in maintaining and developing professional standards and development as chair of the New Zealand CPD committee. This has involved working closely with colleges and regulatory authorities such as the NZ Medical Council.
He represents the College of Physicians and Cardiac Society on the NZ Resuscitation Council and has been a task force member of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation Science.
In addition to working as a cardiologist at Waitemata Cardiology, he works in Waitemata DHB at North Shore and Waitakere hospitals, where he has been Clinical Director since 2003.
In early 2013 he was appointed Clinical Leader of the Northern Region Cardiology Clinical Network, with governance responsibilities for coordination of the 4 Northern District Health Boards.
He currently reports all non-PET cardiac nuclear scans for the Auckland metropolitan area and sits on the variance committee for cardiac PET and is working towards increasing the scope of cardiac PET work done, specifically regarding Cardiac Sarcoid.
